WELCOME #CreativePioneer Sam Fox to the Hat District

Hat District Creative Pioneer Sam Fox

Sam Fox is co-founder with Nick Grant of Made in Luton plastic recycling. Samantha is a multi-disciplinary, mixed media artist and designer and Nick is a technical analyst & developer. Their idea is to set up a community interest plastic recycling workshop that allows them to take ownership of the recycling process and create things from waste plastic. The workshop will teach the skills needed for practitioners to use this as their trade similar to woodwork and metalwork.

About the Hat District #CreativePioneers

The Culture Trust Luton is delighted to announce the arrival of Sam as one of the town’s most talented entrepreneurs to the Hat Factory Arts Centre. The first Hat District Creative Pioneers will have rent free space in the arts centre to develop their business ideas, collaborate and network in the Hat District 'creative ecosystem'.

The Creative Pioneers will help the Culture Trust shape ways to reach young people from diverse backgrounds across Luton who may also have an interest in working in the creative industry sector in future. This is considered to be the fastest growing sector of UK’s economy, worth over £100bn per year and employing over two million people (Tim Davie, DCMS Blog 26 April 2019).

The first Creative Pioneers will be based at the Hat Factory Arts Centre until the restoration of Hat Works is completed. Future entrepreneurs will then start their journey in Luton’s oldest remaining hat factory (built in the 1840s) in the heart of the creative cluster.

The Pioneers have already shared their ideas in workshops relating to how Hat Works should be designed, used and marketed to meet the needs of the town’s budding entrepreneurs.

On becoming a Hat District #CreativePioneer Sam says:

Being selected as pioneers for the Hat District fills me with great pleasure, I’m proud and honoured to be part of such a great team and cannot wait to get started.
